Jewelry and General Artistics

About the Artists:
TO BEGIN WITH.............. we want our customers to know something about us and how we came to create the work we make today. For over 25 years we have been working as professional artists but our path has not been without some curves and changes in direction.

Ann and I are a husband and wife team. Since the early 1980’s we have been on a life journey through the arts. We both have an interest in drawing, watercolor, oil pastels, printmaking, and other two dimensional media. Yet our first love was clay so for nearly 20 years we worked in stoneware and porcelain making both useful and decorative items for sale at art festivals and art and craft shows.

At the time we also made various types of ceramic jewelry. Although neither one of us had a background in it by the late 1990’s we became increasingly interested in personal adornment. Ann began accessorizing apparel with ceramic accents and taught herself off-loom beadweaving. I started to learn metalwork, lapidary, and stone-setting. By the dawn of the new century we were participating in fine art festivals with hand fabricated one-of-a-kind (art) jewelry using sterling silver and other precious materials. Combining a mixture of techniques we sought a fusion of artistic ideas drawn from our background into a unique style of personal adornment.

Somehow we have also managed to make time to contribute to the community.  We have both given time to our community-based counseling center to work with people of all ages with various problems from jobs to chemical dependence.  I have also worked in a number of local and county government appointed offices and written extensively about culture and public policy being published in the United States, Europe, and on the Internet.

Our commitment to the arts and our continued participation in competitive-entry art festivals allows our work to have traditional elements with contemporary sensibilities. Today jewelry is our focus but we have continued to work with other media. We use precious metals and cut and polish many of the stones in our work. We attempt to make the highest quality most wearable fashion and art silver available today.

We have won numerous awards at art shows and festivals for both execution and design. We bring our experience and passion for the arts to each piece we make. Working with Etsy.com we will offer selected pieces of our jewelry for sale. Listed below are some selected awards we have been given in the recent past:

Oil Paintings

For many years I have also been working with 2-dimensional media; painting, drawing and printmaking.  After experimenting with oil pastels on various surfaces I was not quite satisfied with the results.  I liked the dynamic, direct, and personal nature of oil pastel but found problems in transportation, display, and some other technical issues.  I switched to oil paint sticks and conventional oil paints on textured surfaces. I use them to depict scenes from our rural environment mixed with stuff from my unconscious in a symbolist manner.-dsr-
